SUMMARY:Ultrahigh Field Magnetic Resonance: Clinical Needs\, Research Promises and Technical Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Link to website \nGoals and Objectives\nThe symposium is from the community for the community. It is designed to provide an overview of state-of-the-art (pre)clinical ultrahigh field (UHF) MR\, to discuss the clinical relevance of UHF MR\, to explore future directions of UHF MR\, to foster explorations into ultrahigh field MR and to initiate local\, regional\, national and international collaboration and last but not least to provide plenty of time to engage into fruitful exchange with your peers and colleagues. The symposium is tailored to attract basic scientists\, engineers\, hardware professionals\, translational researchers\, clinical scientists\, applied scientists and clinicians with all levels of experience and expertise ranging from undergraduate and graduate students interested in imaging to trainees\, advanced users and applications experts.\n  \n\nScientific Program\nThe scientific program comprises 4 sessions\, all balancing technical developments and clinical applications. We are very much honored to present extraordinary (inter)national speakers including MR technology leaders and distinguished clinical experts\, all bridging disciplinary boundaries and stimulating the imaging community to throw further weight behind the solution of unsolved problems and unmet clinical needs.\n  \n\nPoster Session and Poster Power Presentations\nThe scientific program will be paralleled by a poster session. We wish to encourage those of you who are prepared to walk the extra mileage. The best posters will be rewarded with a poster award. Thanks to the communities valuable feedback we have also included 15 slots of 3 min poster power presentations in the program. This will give a large number of poster presenters the opportunity to be in the enlightening spotlight of the audience. We are eagerly looking forward to your poster contributions.\n  \n\nTechnical Exhibition and Social Event\nThe symposium will be supplemented by a technical exhibition\, by an open day of the Berlin Ultrahigh Field Facility (B.U.F.F.) as well as a social event.\n  \n\nProfessional Child Care\nOn a special note; many of us know first-hand how challenging it can be to balance the needs of our families with the mission to advance science. To this end we are very pleased to offer professional child care for the course of the symposium and the social event. Please do not hesitate to contact us so that we can provide further details.\n  \n\nBe Berlin\nWe warmly invite you to join us for the 9th Annual Scientific Symposium on Ultrahigh Field MR on Septmember 14th 2018 in Berlin. Please save the date. A visit to Berlin is always worth it. Alongside MR science\, Berlin has numerous historical landmarks\, cultural highlights and sport events to offer. For those of you who are courageous (or kind of crazy) enough please be advised that the 44th Berlin Marathon will be held on September 16th 2018. Be Berlin.

SUMMARY:Elastographic imaging: from early detection of cardiovascular disease to monitoring targeted therapy for pancreatic cancer - by Prof. Marvin Doyley
DESCRIPTION:Presentation title:  Elastographic imaging: from early detection of cardiovascular disease to monitoring targeted therapy for pancreatic cancer \nPresentation abstract:  Elastography is emerging as an imaging technique for visualizing the mechanical properties within biological tissues.  During the last five years\, my group has been actively developing novel elastographic imaging techniques to visualize the structural properties of life-threatening atherosclerotic plaques. Recently we have been using these strategies to understanding how tumor microenvironment impacts the stiffness of the extracellular matrix.  In this talk\, I will discuss progress we have made in vascular elastography and pancreatic cancer imaging. \nBiography:  Marvin M. Doyley received his Ph.D. degree in biophysics from the Institute of Cancer Research (Sutton)\, University of London in 2000. In 2008\, he joined the faculty of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Rochester\, in Rochester New York\, where he is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.  His Parametric Imaging Research Laboratory at the University of Rochester concentrates their efforts in the areas of non-invasive vascular imaging\, model-based intravascular ultrasound elastography\, high frequency nonlinear ultrasound imaging\, and molecular imaging for pancreatic cancer. He currently serves as Associate Editor for IEEE Transaction of Ultrasonic and Ferroelectrics and Frequency control\, SPIE Journal of Medical Imaging\, and Nature Scientific Reports. \n

SUMMARY:Non-invasive detection of human cerebral population spikes in MEG and EEG
DESCRIPTION:Festkolloquium der Abteilung 8\nMedizinphysik und metrologische Informationstechnik \nanlässlich der Verabschiedung von Herrn Dr. Martin Burghoff\n______________________________________________________ \nFreitag\, 20. April 2018\, 14.00 Uhr \nProf. Dr. med. Gabriel Curio \nKlinik für Neurologie mit experimenteller Neurologie\, Charité Berlin \nBerlin Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience \n  \nNon-invasive detection of human cerebral population spikes in MEG and EEG \nThe capability to detect spikes defines a striking contrast between invasive (microscopic) and non-invasive (macroscopic) recordings. While the latter are dominated by summed postsynaptic potentials reflecting neuronal input\, invasive electrodes can provide direct access also to the very output of neuronal computation – spikes. This micro/macro gap\, however\, has been narrowed gradually over the last years by combining special physiological paradigms with neurotechnological advances. Surveying this research agenda on spike-related high-frequency MEG/EEG the tripartite lecture will (i) address the basic neurophysics of near-field and far-field signals distinguishing slow from fast neuronal activities\, (ii) elaborate on high-frequency (> 600 Hz) somatosensory evoked burst responses serving as a key paradigm to establish the feasibility of non-invasive spike-related recordings\, and (iii) report on novel neurotechnology enabling high-resolution mappings of EEG activities even above 1 kHz which reflect non-invasive correlates of human neocortical multi-unit (‘population’) spike responses. Critically\, if recording conditions provide optimal SNR\, event detection of even single-trial (i.e.\, unaveraged) 600 Hz bursts becomes feasible\, offering a unique perspective to study the immediate impact of cognitive processes on the generation of human cortical population spikes. \n  \nOrt:\nPhysikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt – Institut Berlin\nHörsaal\, HvH-Bau\nAbbestraße 2-12\, 10587 Berlin \nZu diesem Kolloquium sind alle Interessenten herzlich eingeladen!
